Hawaii Women's Yacht Racing Association was established in 1993 to promote women's yacht racing in the State of Hawaii. HWYRA is a non-profit educational and charitable organization that holds regular quarterly meetings, educational sailing clinics, and sailboat races where a woman must be at the helm. We give women the opportunity to learn, practice, teach, mentor, and demonstrate sailing expertise.
We hope to provide sailing opportunities for women that will encourage their growth and self-reliance as crew, skipper, or boat owner.
HWYRA participates in the larger sailing community in Hawaii by being a club member of the Hawaii Yacht Racing Association and Commodores' Association. The members of HWYRA frequently volunteer for local, international, and long distance yacht racing events such as the Friday Night and Off Shore races, Transpac, Kenwood Cup, and Pacific Cup. HWYRA members also promote youth sailing by fund raising, working as race committee, and educating youth sailors.
