MISSION STATEMENT

The Constitution of the Hawaii Yacht Racing Association states that

 

“The object of the Association shall be to promote offshore yacht racing and class racing.”

 

The Association works toward this goal by:

1.  Coordinating a schedule of races among Member Clubs and resolving scheduling conflicts.

 

2. Providing a forum where clubs and classes may meet to discuss issues of racing in Hawaii and

establish uniform procedures for race administration.

 

3.  Establishing technical and administrative committees to assist Member Clubs in organizing and administering their races.  HYRA standing committees include:

-Race Management                    -One-Design

-Racing Rules                            -Multi-Hull

-Appeals                                   -Junior Sailing               

-Safety                                      -US SAILING events

            -Offshore                                   -US SAILING training

 

4.  Administering US SAILING Race Officer and Judges programs.

 

5.  Administering Area Championship events for inshore and offshore racing and US SAILING ladder events, including:

State Keelboat Championships

State Single-handed Championships

            Lipton Cup I & II

 

6.  Hosting an Annual Awards Banquet at which class/fleet and event trophies are awarded and individuals who contribute significantly to the sport of sailing in Hawaii are recognized.

 

7.  Promoting and distributing the most recent publications on racing rules, safety, judging, race management and training published by US SAILING, the International Sailing Federation (ISAF) and the Offshore Racing Council.

 

8.  Providing representation of area clubs and classes to the National Council of Sailing associations and the National Offshore Council at US SAILING meetings.
